The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians built complex communities in the Palm, Murray, Andreas, Tahquitz and Chino canyons in California’s Coachella Valley, located near Palm Springs.
Today, remnants of this early society such as rock art, house pits, foundations, irrigation ditches, dams, reservoirs, trails and food preparation areas still exist in the canyons.
Andreas Canyon is an easy 1.2 mile hike, with many unique photo viewpoints.
We experienced it’s spring-fed creek supporting a meandering California Fan Palm oasis. Ancient rock mortars, spectacular views of rock formations, view vistas, sycamores, cottonwoods, willows, and the magnificent California Fan Palm (Washingtonian filifera) can be experienced along the 1.2 mile trail.
